A small business employment index shows thousands of new jobs added in May. This particular monthly index shows a continuing trend. Intuit Payroll's May Small Business Employment Index shows that although there was a slight decrease in the amount of hours worked, the number of hours per worker continues to fall at a slower rate. The software provider's Sharna Brockett says the tide may be turning, as small businesses step up hiring.

A Texas A&M oceanographer says the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico could hit Texas beaches if currents change. Dr. Piers Chapman says the slick mainly threatens the upper Gulf Coast east of the Mississippi Delta, but winds and currents in the Gulf can change quickly.

The American Wind Energy Association is holding its Windpower Conference in the state that leads the nation in wind installations. Texas will host the event later this month in Dallas. The group's Denise Bode says Texas is also a manufacturing hub for the wind energy industry, which has created thousands of jobs.

For nearly 50 years, there have been restrictions for Americans wanting to travel to Cuba. Pennsylvania-based Friendly Planet Travel hopes House Bill 874 changes that.
