The project will inventory refueling infrastructure for electricity, natural gas and propane across Greater Houston.  Shelley Whitworth, air quality program manager for the Houston-Galveston Area Council, says the information gathered will be used to determine where new infrastructure will be needed.

“And that’s become something that’s very important here in Texas, because we have a natural source for a number of the alternative fuels that can be used in the operation of clean vehicles.”

Whitworth says the funds will also help HGAC to create and maintain an alternative fuel mapping tool. The tool would match future supplies to fleets and vendors looking to expand in the region.

The grant comes as part of an $11 million initiative by the Obama Administration to promote alternative fuel use and improve fuel efficiency.
