New Air Cargo Center Under Development At Ellington

J.A. Billipp Company has announced plans to develop a new air cargo facility bordering Ellington Airport in southeast Houston.

The Ellington Air Commerce Center will occupy 37 acres just north of Ellington Airport. The space will have room for more than 600,000 square feet of warehouses, distribution centers, and offices.

We’re about two minutes from Beltway 8, and we’re about five minutes from the Port of Houston’s Bayport Terminal.

J.A. Billipp’s Mark Wittee is project manager for the construction of Ellington Air Commerce Center.  He says the center’s access to the port and lack of passenger traffic will help it capture cargo traffic from Bush Intercontinental Airport north of the city.

There are companies that may see a benefit to not have to wait in line due to commuter congestion to both take off and land, which they would potentially have to do at one of Houston’s other airports.

Wittee says construction will be on a build-to-suit basis.
