KUHF's This I Believe Student Essay Competition
Complete Official Rules
General Rules
- Contestants must enter through KUHF's website and must also complete the online form.
- Contestants must compose an original essay with limited guidance from others.
- KUHF Houston Public Radio will have the right to edit, publish or otherwise duplicate any essay entered into the contest without payment to the author.
- There is no fee to enter the contest.
Qualifications for Contestants
- The contest is open to all students currently enrolled in grades 9-12 in public, private and home schools.
- Contestants may submit only one essay entry during any given contest year.
Contest Rules
- Essays must be typed.
- Essays must contain at least 300 words but no more than 500 words. Every word of the essay is counted. This does not include the title, bibliography or footnotes.
- Any quotations or copyrighted material used in the essay must be identified properly. Failure to identify non-original material will result in disqualification.
- Essays must be written in English.
- Essays must be submitted through the website by midnight March 1, 2009.
Judging and Timing
- Judging will be completed by a panel of qualified judges.
- In an effort to conceal the identity of each contestant, each entry will be assigned a number by an essay contest coordinator. The assigned number will be placed on the essay. The judges will be given the essay bearing only the assigned number.
Awards
3 winners will be selected. Each winner will receive the following:
- Invitation to March 2009 Awards Ceremony
- One $500 U.S. Savings Bond
- One Compaq Presario Widescreen Notebook
- The opportunity to visit KUHF's studio and record their essay for broadcast.
