FEDS say They'll Probe Fort Hood Shooting

November 19, 2009

by: Brett Neely

Senator Joe Lieberman today laid out plans for a probe into the shooting rampage earlier this month at Fort Hood, Texas. From Washington, Brett Neely has more.

listen now:

The Senator said he welcomed the Obama administration’s investigation of the Fort Hood massacre.

Nidal HasanLIEBERMAN: "But that does not mean that the rest of us, including the Senate Committee on Homeland Security can just sit back and watch."

He said his committee would probe whether the government could have done more to prevent the rampage. Reports have emerged that FBI agents were monitoring the alleged shooter.

LIEBERMAN: "We want to know what the Federal Government knew and what it did concerning Major Hasan and whether actions should have been taken, based on information available to federal employees to connect the dots."

At hearings Thursday, Senators will hear from terrorism experts about how intelligence and law enforcement agencies share information. Some critics, including the White House, say Congress should wait until federal investigators finish their work.
