The Houston Metropolitan Dance Company presents the world premiere of Elevated, a new work created especially for it by Belgian-born choreographer, Salim Gaulwoos. His piece, and six older favorites from the company’s repertoire will constitute the program for Houston Met’s Summer Sampler of Dance, to be presented – one time only – Friday night at 8:30 at Miller Outdoor Theatre in Hermann Park. Soprano Abby Charlton and baritone Justin Manalad are two of the eighteen emerging young opera singers who are enrolled in the Bel Canto Opera Institute: Le Chiavi di Bel Canto – The Keys to Beautiful Song, being offered for the first time this summer by the Immanuel and Helen Olshan Texas Music Festival at the University of Houston’s Moores School of Music. KUHF's Catherine Lu speaks with South-African-born visual artist, Marlene Dumas, about her sketches, collages and paintings currently on view in the exhibition, Measuring Your Own Grave, the first mid-career survey of the artist’s work to be presented in North America. The show, organized by the Museum of Contemporary Art in Los Angeles and the Museum of Modern Art in New York City, is on display at Houston’s Menil Collection only through the end of next week.
