Guess Who Slept Here

Forgive another post so soon after the last, but I've just discovered something about our hotel here in Verona I think is worth sharing. Mozart stayed here! The Hotel Due Torri is in a 14th-century building known as the Palazzo dell'Aquila, and when Mozart rolled into town it was still a private residence. I don't think he was here stealing the soap and shampoo!

Three Pennies Go A Long Way in Verona

Last night, members of the KUHF arts tour to Italy went to see a ballet production of The Threepenny Opera, L’Opera da Tre Soldi in Italian, at Verona’s Teatro Filarmonico (pictured). The most successful of the collaborations between composer Kurt Weill and playwright Bertolt Brecht, The Threepenny Opera proclaims itself "an opera by and for beggars." It was an attempt to satirize traditional opera and to create a new kind of musical theater that dealt with “real” issues and didn’t buy into the bourgeois conventions of Western art.
