Metro Fires Light Rail Contractor

The Houston Metropolitan Transit Authority has fired its main contractor for the new light rail project.
Washington Group International was awarded a 77-million dollar contract last year to begin phase one of the project. Metro's President and CEO says the project is on schedule and going according to plan. He says the decision go to with a new firm was made after the two sides failed to agree on a new contract.

"It's better for us to part ways now."

Metro has selected the Parsons Transportation Group to take over the next phase of the project. Contract negotiations are currently under way.
