Rice University Shepherd School of Music faculty-artists, violinists Cho-Liang Lin Kathleen Winkler, violist James Dunham and cellist Brinton Averil Smith, along with guest pianist Evelyn Chen, present a free Faculty Recital tonight, 8pm, in Duncan Recital Hall.  Professors Winkler, Chen & Smith play a movement from one of their pieces (Mendelssohn's Piano Trio No. 1) and chat about their love of chamber music with Catherine Lu.   Listen  Download

Soprano Caitlin Lynch won both First Prize & the Audience Choice Award in the 19th Annual Houston Grand Opera/Eleanor McCollum Competition for Young Singers.  Here is an aria from her winning performance in the competition's final round, Concert of Arias, held February 8, 2008 at the Wortham Center.  Ms. Lynch sings Piangerò la sorte mia from Handel's Julius CaesarListen  Download

Houston's new music ensemble, Musiqa, has teamed up with Stages Repertory Theatre to present Inner Voices, this Saturday, 7:30pm, at the Hobby Center.  The program offers contemporary chamber works and dramatic readings from the plays of Craig Wright.  In the studio with Bob Stevenson for a live preview are composer Karim Al-Zand, Stages Repertory Theatre Producing Director Kenn McLaughlin and actors Anne Quackenbush & Tom Prior.    Listen  Download
