METRO's University Corridor will run along parts of Richmond and Westpark. The city has to plan how the light rail line will fit in with local infrastructure. Suzy Hartgrove is with the Houston Planning Department. She says they want to change how they plan in light rail areas.
"We want to make it easier for people to have access to the rail stations and the rail corridors. Make sure that there's walkable sidewalks, that there's landscape along there, lighting and other types of amenities that you would hope to find in a rail corridor."
The planning department is holding a public meeting tonight. The community input will help shape the University Corridor.
"Stakeholders from all the corridors have told us you know it's not a one-size-fits-all solution. The corridors are all different from one another, so we need to have very flexible guidelines, incentives, performance standards so that we can meet our objectives."
Tonight's meeting starts at 6pm.
It's at St. Luke's United Methodist Church.
