Watch for Cyclists

The reason is simple says Michael Marcotte, the Director of Public Works and Engineering, there are a growing number of bicyclists on city streets.
"And the nature of that is that there is going to be more interaction between cyclists and folks who are in vehicles."
And there are already too many of those interactions. Jeff Kaufman is the Transportation Safety Coordinator for the Houston-Galveston Area Council.
"In the eight county region between 1999 and 2001 we had 2,000 bicycle crashes, in the City of Houston specifically, that counts for half of them."
Kaufman says the bicyclist was killed in about two-percent of the collisions. The city's "Watch for Cyclists" campaign has ten basic tips about sharing the road with cyclists. You'll find a link to those tips at kuhf.org.
