FEMA reports that fewer than 3,900 evacuees remain in hotel rooms acrosss the state. In Harris County, FEMA issued more than 12-hundred authorization codes. Those hotel rooms could be paid for until March first, but the goal is to transition the evacuees into long-term housing. FEMA's Albie Lewis says those evacuees will still receive assistance.
"If the evacuee is eligible ... disaster declaration."
That declaration was made on September 24th last year. FEMA officials say statewide 50,000 evacuees have already transitioned to apartments and homes. As for Hurricane Rita, FEMA says more than 470,000 people have registered with housing assistance funds totalling more than $500 million so far. Capella Tucker, Houston Public Radio News.
