The Methodist Neurological Institute and the University of Houston recently held a two day Neuroscience Colloquium to discuss ways the two institutions could work together on research projects. Dr. Stanley Appel is Chairman of Neurology at The Methodist Neurological Institute.

Stuart Dryer is Chairman of the Department of Biology and Biochemistry at the University of Houston. He says this potential collaboration is a perfect fit even though it is a bit unusual.

Dryer says while The Methodist Hospital is not a medical school it has an outstanding clinical research component.

Dryer hopes there will be more collaboration of various kinds between medicine and academia, but because he's a neuroscientist, this one is special.

The Methodist Neurological Institute is about a year old it is the first of it's kind in this part of the country and it's the first in North America in 40-years.
