Escaped Texas Death Row Inmate

The search is continuing for an escaped Texas death row inmate. Houston Public Radio's Capella Tucker reports Charles Victor Thompson was sentenced to death a week ago for a 1998 double-murder.

Harris County officials say the 35 year old convict escaped from a facility in Houston where he was being held pending typical appeals following a trial. Officials say Thompson apparently smuggled civilian clothes he wore during a court hearing into his jail cell.

Sheriff department lieutenant John Martin says an internal investigation is reviewing security procedures.

Martin says the convict came in contact with at least three security officials as he made his way from the second floor to the public lobby. Officials say he passed himself off as an attorney.
