Drivers Need To Prepare For More US 290 Construction Next Week

U.S. 290 in northwest Houston is being widened to four lanes in each direction.
Crews are about to start work on a $143 million project that goes from Pinemont to West 34th.
But before they start work on the main lanes, TxDOT's Karen Othon says they have to tear down the bridge that crosses the freeway at Pinemont.
"We're starting off by closing it on Monday, February 3rd. We're going to actually close Pinemont over U.S. 290, and ask all motorists to detour to Bingle or Hollister."
Othon says it will take a couple of weeks to do the demolition. Crews will then start building a longer bridge that will span all the new lanes.
"We're estimating this to take six months, and that includes the demolition and the rebuilding of Pinemont. At the end of six months we look forward to the reopening of that bridge to traffic and then we'll start work on our frontage roads and main lanes."
Because of the overhead demolition, Othon says drivers can expect closures next month on the 290 main lanes. Information on the closures is available at my290.com.
