Houston Drivers Face Major Freeway Shutdown This Weekend

TxDOT's Danny Perez says crews will be working this weekend and next on the Hogan Street bridge. It crosses I-45 just north of downtown.
"The bridge was struck back in August of last year. And we're just going back in to do a permanent beam replacement."
So what does this mean for weekend travelers on I-45?
Perez says drivers could face some major delays.
"What we're going to be doing is shutting down the southbound lanes, and folks will be detoured to I-10 going westbound. They'll take the Taylor Street exit, U-turn to get back on I-10 going eastbound, and that will take them to 45 going southbound."
The shutdown begins at 9:00 Friday night. The freeway is set to reopen by 5:00 Monday morning. Northbound lanes won't be affected.
