The sky's the limit at what you can find at the 59th Houston International Boat, Sport and Travel Show. The event has seen a surge in attendance because of the rising interest in boating.
"This is a boat sport and travel show."
Dave Foulkrod with the Boat Show says there's something for everyone.
"This year's show, I think they probably start at a couple hundred dollars, in terms of a kayak or what you can buy there, all the way up to, as I understand there's probably a million and a half dollar boat in the show, but there's more small boats in the show this year. There's over a thousand boats featured in here, and there's more small boats in the show than there's ever been."
He says the show also reflects the economic uptick.
"We've gone the last few years and not sold out the floor space in the show, and the uptick in the business is reflective of the way the show is filled with exhibitors. But not only that, I think you have people that own a boat that are ready to trade it in, get that new boat, that new technology, improved fuel economy, just like an automobile. You get to a point where your old automobile is so old and it's time to upgrade, and you want that new one."
Camille NulI says if kayaking is you preference:
"A kayak is a very simple investment. You don't have to worry about storage as much as you do with a big boat. You don't have insurance. You don't have gasoline. Most of them can go on top of a car or the back of a pickup. Rack systems are not nearly expensive as big boat trailers."
The Boat Show fills the needs of the serious boater or the novice, in or out of the water. It runs through Sunday of next week at Reliant Center.
