Six In Ten Houston Entrepreneurs Plan To Boost Hiring By June

A new survey finds a majority of local entrepreneurs are planning to increase hiring over the first half of 2014.

The global business network known as The Entrepreneurs’ Organization found 60% of Houston-area entrepreneurs expect to hire more full-time workers over the next six months. A similar percentage said they expect to hire more part-time workers over the same time period.

The majority of respondents said they believe the economy is moving in the right direction, with nearly 90% expressing positive feelings about starting new ventures in the first half of next year.

John Carter is Houston Chapter president of The Entrepreneurs’ Organization.

“A lot of our EO members, our businesses, serve larger businesses, serve the multinational businesses in and around Houston, and when we’re busy, it’s because they’re busy.”

Carter says the biggest challenge for his members is finding enough highly skilled workers locally. He says many are filling job openings by luring candidates from outside the Houston area.
