WOLS: Retrospective

The Menil Collection presents a retrospective exhibition of works by the artist Alfred Otto Wolfgang Schulze, aka "Wols," an important 20th-century artist largely unknown outside Europe. The exhibition is on view through January 12.

Toby Kamps, the Menil Collection's curator of contemporary art, talks with Houston Public Media's Troy Schulze about the exhibition "WOLS: Retrospective." Born Alfred Otto Wolfgang Schulze, "Wols" was one of the most influential artists of postwar Europe and has been compared to the American abstract expressionist painter Jackson Pollock. Wols' finely detailed drawings, visceral abstract paintings and bizarre, still-life photographs have been largely unseen outside Europe.
