Cruz's message to the Asian Chamber of Commerce was the need for the country to get back to economic growth, which he says is foundational to every other challenge facing the country.
"All across the state of Texas, the message I hear from Texans is we want jobs and economic growth back. That's my top priority in the Senate. It's what I'm fighting to do everyday."
He says the Affordable Care Act stifles job job creation and small business expansion, and that many employers are having to cut hours to avoid complying with it.
"In the past couple of months, we've elevated the debate. People are realizing, all the people that are losing their jobs that are losing their health insurance over Obamacare. We just learned the past week that over two million prople are losing their health insurance right now [and] are getting cancellation notices in the mail because of Obamacare. This thing isn't working. People are hurting, and we need to stand up and stop it."
Cruz says while he is an "enthusiastic advocate" of healthcare reform, the president's plan is not for everyone.
"It is notable that under President Obama right now, the top one percent earn a higher share of U.S. income than in anytime since 1928. The people who are being hurt under the Obama economy, are young people, are Hispanics, are African Americans, are single moms, are those who are struggling to climb the economic ladder. They're the ones who are being laid off from work. They're the ones who are being forced to work part time, 29 hours a week because of Obamacare. They're the ones who are losing their health care."
He adds America needs to get back to a pro-growth environment with tax and regulatory reform that spurs economic growth.
