The report cited Houston’s low unemployment, strong job growth, VA health care facilities, and higher education opportunities for vets looking to get their degree on the GI Bill. Above all, it pointed to the large number of businesses that are actively recruiting veterans.

“The great thing about Houston is that they have some industries that are particularly attractive for veterans and their skill sets, and that’s the retail trade, transportation, the utility industry. Obviously, the energy sector there in Houston is incredibly strong. We also have the industrial construction business. Companies like Fluor are really out there recruiting veterans.”
Texas accounted for three of the top ten U.S. cities for veterans looking for civilian work. Dallas came in second, while Austin ranked fifth.
