Workers are cleaning some of the original blue, red, yellow and orange seats. The history in the old stadium doesn’t go unnoticed by them. This is Alonzo Brown.
“Brings back memories, you know. … I was here for some Astros games, monster truck rallies, you know, stuff like that.”
On Saturday, Astrodome seats, along with AstroTurf, suite furniture and other memorabilia will be sold to the general public at Reliant Center.
Leah Mastaglio is with Reliant Park. She says some items will be auctioned off while others have fixed prices.
“Some of the fixed prices is the pair of seats will be $200, so it’s $200 for two seats and you have to buy them in a pair, and they come in four different colors. We have the blue, red, yellow and orange. And then we have 12 inch by 12 inch pieces of AstroTurf and so that’s $20 a piece.”
Sale will be limited to four pairs of chairs and four pieces of turf squares per person. Mastaglio says the idea is to make pieces of the Dome available to everyone.
“Obviously the Astrodome is a huge part of Houston and Harris County, so we want everybody to be able to have a chance to kind of capture their memories or childhood memories and have a piece of the Astrodome at home.”
Registration for the “Astrodome Yard Sale and Live Auction” opens at 7 a.m. on Saturday and the sale will go on from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Proceeds will go to the Astrodome project, regardless of whether voters decide for or against the Dome’s renovation on Nov. 5.
