Opera Cheat Sheet: Così fan tutte

Listen to our light-hearted overview of Mozart’s “fiancée swapping” comic masterpiece Così fan tutte, which is this week’s San Francisco Opera broadcast airing on Classical 91.7 Saturday at noon.

In this week’s Opera Cheat Sheet, Classical 91.7’s program director St.John Flynn and opera expert Eric Skelly discuss one of the three great operas Mozart wrote with librettist Lorenzo da Ponte, Così fan tutte (subtitled La scuola degli amanti), often translated as Women Are Like That (or The School for Lovers).  Two young soldiers, Guglielmo and Ferrando, decide to test the faithfulness of their fiancées, sisters Fiordiligi and Dorabella, by disguising themselves and courting the other sister…and comedy ensues!  You can hear the San Francisco Opera production of Così fan tutte Saturday at noon on Classical 91.7 and online at classical917.org.
