Houston Methodist Will Add Two Catholic Hospitals To Its System

One of the hospitals is the St. John Hospital in the tiny municipality of Nassau Bay, across from the Johnson Space Center.
Dr. Marc Boom is president of the Houston Methodist system.
“CHRISTUS has St. John hospital, it’s right next door to NASA and it’s a wonderful hospital and will give us an instant presence in that market.”
The other Christus hospital, St. Catherine, is just two miles from a Methodist Hospital off the Katy Freeway.
Because it’ so close, Methodist may transform St. Catherine into a rehabilitation hospital or long-term care facility.
Neither party is calling this an outright sale, because CHRISTUS is retaining a stake in the two hospitals.
But Methodist will be the majority owner.
CEO Ernie Sadau says CHRISTUS wants to focus on other markets.
It has more than 40 hospitals in seven states and is a major player in Corpus Christi and East Texas.
“By partnering with such a reputable and high-quality organization as Houston Methodist that this will continue to insure their success and will strengthen us for the next years ahead.”
CHRISTUS will continue to operate clinics and medical charities in the Houston area.
The deal will be finalized by the end of the year.
It will add 1,000 workers to the Methodist system, which already employs 15,000 people across five hospitals.
