The Texans came closer last season, losing in the second round of the playoffs. But this season, with players like Brian Cushing back and the return of the league's best defensive player, JJ Watt, Houston has its sights set higher.
Texans president Jamey Rootes says it all starts against the Chargers tonight. He spoke on KUHF's Houston Matters.
"The goal in the beginning of the season for us, it's about winning championships. We're hopeful. It all begins in San Diego. The goal is to go 1-0 and move our way through the season, but you can't help but be excited by the team being fielded by your Houston Texans."
Kick-off is set for after 9:00 p.m. CT. The Texans play at home for the first time next Sunday against the Titans.
Fans will notice huge new video boards at Reliant Stadium. Rootes says they're part of an improved fan experience.
"It's not the most important thing for the fans, but it absolutely creates for a better game experience for them, and that's really our focus, have memorable experiences for our fans when they come on game day to watch their team."
Rootes says fans at home next weekend will also notice new security measures in place, including a policy that requires fans to place items they're bringing into the stadium in clear plastic bags and in small clutch purses.
