Biden: "No Doubt" on Syria's Involvement in Chemical Warfare

The White House says President Barack Obama hasn't decided on how to respond to the use of chemical weapons in Syria. But Vice President Joe Biden bluntly told the American Legion National Convention in Houston that there is "no doubt" who was responsible.

The Vice President began his remarks by blaming on the Syrian regime for using chemical weapons in Damascus.

"Everyone acknowledges their use. No one doubts that innocent men, women and children, have been the victims of chemical weapons attacks in Syria."

Biden laid out the rationale behind the widely held belief.

"We know that the Syrian regime are the only ones who have the weapons, have used chemical weapons multiple times in the past, to wipe out exactly the places that were attacked by chemical weapons."

He said instead of allowing UN inspectors immediate access, the Syrian government repeatedly shelled the sites of the attack and blocked the investitgation.

"The President believes and I believe, that those who use chemical weapons against defenseless men, women and children, should and must be held accountable."

Biden's comments make hm the highest ranking U.S. official to blame the Syrian regime. The Pentagon says U.S. military forces stand ready to strike Syria if given the order from the President.
