Cattle Rustlers Beware: There Is An App For That

Livestock and equipment on rural ranches is worth a small fortune and it's no surprise that local law enforcement might be outmanned in fighting against thieves.
Noel Gouldin is the man behind CellGate.
"My background is 25 years in the wireless industry, and so I researched it and I said you know, there's definitely a need for that and nobody is doing it."
He says the CellGate system allows round-the-clock monitoring of your property without having to be there:
"It's cellular; it gets mounted at these remote locations. It's managed by the internet and we also have smart phone apps, so the owner goes on the internet and creates access codes, an unlimited number of codes. They can create time and date limitations, so our system both controls who enters the property, and monitors who enters the property."
He's added an app that helps feral hog hunters and their traps.
"The owner can see when the hogs are coming in and can wait until those numbers level out, and then can use his cell phone to release the trap. Our customers are catching 20 and 30 at a time. it makes it not only efficient for them time-wise, but it actually is able to put a dent in the population because you're an entire group at one time."
Gouldin says there is really no limit to where the system can be set up.
"The real growth in wireless technology is that it would be in these types of applications, whether it's a smart meter or a smart trap. But it's a matter of creating those applications and then finding the right markets for them."
