At the age of 18, Dwight Howard was drafted by the Orlando Magic as the #1 overall pick in the 2004 NBA Draft. He spent his first eight seasons with the Orlando Magic, where he earned the nickname “Superman” for his high-flying dunks. NBA.com shows that he earned three consecutive defensive player awards, a first in NBA history. Howard left Orlando in 2011 and joined the Los Angeles Lakers, where he spent one season.
Howard has signed a four-year deal with the Rockets and is considered to be the best active center in the NBA. Howard said he “is grateful for this opportunity and can’t wait to begin with the Rockets.”
Former Houston Rockets center, two-time NBA champion, and hall of famer, Hakeem Olajuwon was present at the fan rally to welcome Howard to Houston. According to ESPN, Olajuwon has agreed to mentor Howard while he plays in Houston.
The Dwight Howard trade gives the Rockets a tremendous chance to win a championship in the 2014 season.
