Former President George H.W. Bush is ready to celebrate his 89th birthday tomorrow at his summer home in Maine. Mr. Bush has put his recent health scare behind him.

The 41st President will spend the day with his immediate family at his home on Walker's Point in Kennebunkport.

The family celebrated Barbara Bush's 88th birthday there on Saturday.

Family spokesman Jim McGrath says Mr. Bush is doing well after last year's health scare.

"He's had on recurrence of the problems that found him in the hospital last November, December and January. There's been no recurrence of that thank God. He's continuing with his exercises and he's gaining strength. He's been blessed with good health since he left Methodist Hospital and we're all unbelievably happy about that to be sure."

McGrath says the Bush's will spend the summer away from Houston.

"The normally come back in the fall at some point. Sometimes it's September, sometimes it's October. It kind of fluctuates. They'll stay up there as long as they can and feel like it's a good place for him to be."

McGrath says Mr. Bush has spent parts of every summer of his life in Maine with the exception of one year when he was serving in the military.
