State Comptroller Not Running In 2014; Other Candidates Surface

Susan Combs
Susan Combs says she's not seeking any elected office after finishing her current term as state comptroller.

U.S. Sen. John Cornyn of Texas lauds Combs for her work in increasing transparency in government.  And that's something Combs says she wants to continue for the remainder of her term.

" ... [W]hich is a good amount of time to do the things that I want to do. One of the things that I'm particularly focused on doing since the session ended and my big transparency bill died is we're going to try to replicate what the bill would have done by doing it within the agency and by putting everything up on the web about debt from cities, counties, school districts, hospital districts, MUDs, et cetera."

Gov. Rick Perry says Combs played a key role in cultivating the strength of the Texas economy.  Combs began her career as a state representative from Austin, and was the first female state agriculture commissioner.
