In Memoriam: Van Cliburn

Van Cliburn died last February. He was 78.
Texas pianist Van Cliburn restored the nation’s self-confidence at the height of the Cold War when he won the first Tchaikovsky International Competition in Moscow, Russia, and introduced a whole generation of Americans to the joys of classical music with his lyrical and big-hearted approach to repertoire from the Romantic Era.
