The Texas Medical Center is hosting a job fair for military veterans next Wednesday.

Several member institutions of the Texas Medical Center will be on hand, including UT Health, the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center, Memorial-Hermann-Texas Medical Center and The Methodist Hospital System.  Brian Wilson is with UT Health.

"I myself was a military veteran. I served as a combat medic in Iraq, and last year, through the hiring Red, White and Blue program, is how I found my job today."

Wilson says Dr. Red Duke — a Korean war veteran — helped start the veterans hiring program.

"Yeah, Dr. Red Duke and Dr. John Holcomb, who is also a military veteran — he's a trauma surgeon who actually served in Iraq — they got together last year and were talking about how you hear about veterans wanting to come home and find work. And here at the Medical Center we want to hire them. And so they started talking to the different administrators saying 'why don't we do a program to specifically reach out to veterans?' "

The job fair for military veterans is set for next Wednesday, May 8th, from 9 to 3 p.m at the Hornberger Conference Center on West Holcombe.
