In Fort Bend schools Charles Dupre has had many jobs.

He’s been the internal auditor, the budget officer and chief financial officer.

He’s most likely the next superintendent.

“I am the lone finalist for superintendent of schools in Fort Bend Independent School District.”

Fort Bend ISD has been looking for a new leader since the previous superintendent retired last year.

The job pays about $260,000 a year.

Dupre has experience as a superintendent. For the last seven years he’s led the Pflugerville school district north of Austin.

“What I learned the most is the power of a strong board-superintendent relationship — that it’s critical that we work together well. I also learned the power of engaging stakeholders in decision making. And I mean students, staff, parents, community members and members of the business community — even citizens who may not have children in school.”

Dupre wants to hear from all those stakeholders to get up to speed in Fort Bend.

“Before I can identify what I think the top three issues are, I need to get here and really spend time in this community listening to the people who’ve been here for the seven years that I have not been here.”

Dupre could start by June.

The Fort Bend School Board is expected to confirm him as the new superintendent next month.
