The Houston-based law firm announced the hiring this morning. The former senator’s husband, Ray Hutchison, is also a senior counsel at the firm’s Dallas office.

Hutchison will act as an advisor to the firm’s clients on public policy and federal regulation, particularly on energy issues.

“I will be, certainly, an advocate for fair treatment for the energy industry. I think there is a misconception in Washington that they get tax breaks that other businesses and industries don’t get, and it’s wrong. They should be able to write off their expenses like every company does, because a healthy energy industry means low-cost energy for everyone.”

“We are just incredibly excited to have the senator on board in our Dallas office.”

Mark Evans is managing partner at Bracewell & Giuliani’s Houston office.

“Our client base is primarily on the energy, finance, technology side, and the people that Kay has dealt with and interacted with are going to be — in essence, things she’s learned from that are going to be very helpful in advising our clients.”

Hutchison served nearly 20 years in the Senate before deciding not to seek reelection in 2012.
