Houston Sales Tax Allocation Up 7.4% From January 2012

Comptroller Susan Combs says Texas collected nearly $2.2 billion in sales tax revenue in December. That’s up 9% compared to December 2011.

“We see the increases in sales tax across several major sectors, whether it’s business spending in oil and gas industries or the manufacturing sector. Construction also has been doing well.”
Combs will send out more than $530 million in local sales tax allocations, up 7% from January 2012. Houston will get back about $45 million, an increase over last January roughly in line with the state average. Sugar Land will get back about $3.2 million, down nearly 10% from a year ago.
