Be Prepared For Your Flight This Holiday Season

Today is expected to be the 2nd busiest day for travel at Bush Intercontinental Airport and tomorrow will most likely be the busiest day of the year at Hobby Airport. The Houston Airport System has information that can help get your trip off to a less stressful start.

Getting through long security lines can be problematic. To help you pick the shortest wait times, the Airport System has a device on their web page showing you the locations with the shortest wait times.

"It's coded red for over 15-minute wait times, yellow for intermediate and if it's green it means it's under 10-minutes."

That's the Houston Airport Systems Roxanne Butler. She says if you're flying over the holidays get to the airport at least two-hours before your flight.

"Don't get yourself where you're going to have something happen along the way that you'll miss your flight, 'cause everyone else is traveling to and if you miss your flight it's going to be hard to get your whole family on the same flight seated together, if you have to reschedule."

Butler says the most important thing is to know what to expect at the security gates.

"When you get to the checkpoint make sure you don't have your belt or jewelry on that will stop you from getting through quickly. We do still have to take our shoes and coats off, but the nice thing is kids no longer have to do the shoes. And if you do have to go through and be checked again just be calm and relaxed and don't be upset."

Butler says the two busiest days for returning travelers are expected to be next Wednesday and Thursday. The Airport System's web address is fly2houston.com.
