Senator Cornyn Criticizes Lack Of Progress In Fiscal Cliff Talks

Talks between President Barack Obama and House Speaker John Boehner on a deal to avoid the "fiscal cliff'' continue out of the public eye.  But public statements from lawmakers suggest a deal is not close.  Senator John Cornyn of Texas complains about the progress of negotiations.

"So far the president seems content to continue his campaign. I've not found that when your opponent is on the campaign trail trying to embarrass you day in and day out [that] it's conducive to cooperation and settlement negotiations."

The combination of automatic tax increases and spending cuts would go into effect after the first of the year. Economists have warned it could plunge the nation into a recession.
