TxDOT is building two direct connectors on the Katy Freeway at State Highway 99. This weekend crews will hang girders to prepare for construction. TxDOT's Danny Perez says it's part of a $30 million project designed to improve mobility.

"At this time folks have to exit off the main lanes of the freeway, get on the frontage road to enter the other freeway they want to get on.  And with the direct connectors this will give them direct access."

To do that work, the Katy Freeway will be closed at State Highway 99 starting at 9:00 Friday night. It's set to reopen at 5:00 Monday morning.  While that work is taking place, all eastbound and westbound traffic will be detoured onto the feeder road.

"We'll have police officers on-site that will be able to direct traffic and keep traffic flowing as best as possible.  We just ask people to be patient and to find another route if they can."

The connector project should be completed next fall.
