Police say 22-year-old Ricardo Tangarife was arrested yesterday for the armed robbery in a UH parking lot last week. They were able to trace a credit card he stole and later used at Memorial City Mall.
Another man who worked at the store where Tangarife used the card was also arrested. Police are also looking for several other suspects who may be part of an organized group. This is UH Police Chief Ceaser Moore.
"We're looking at this from the standpoint that there may be city-wide ramifications as this group working throughout the city and not just UH. There have been cases in the immediate area away from UH where I see the MO is the same, so we're exploring those possibilities as well. "
There were two other similar armed robberies on or near the UH campus last week. All the suspects are from Alief or Missouri City and some of them attended Elsik High School. Moore says he's hired more officers to combat the increase in campus crime.
"Of course I'm concerned as the chief of police. I'm concerned as a police officer. I just want citizens in the city to be safe regardless of where they are. But I'm charged with protecting UH. I'm charged with making people sure that people feel safe on campus and I think the way that I do that is arrest offenders when they conduct crimes like this on campus, and we've done that."
Moore says investigators used a yearbook from Elsik High School to identify Tangarife.
