The bond issue focuses primarily on high schools. 20 high schools would get new campuses while others would see improvements. The measure would also fund work at eight elementary schools and two middle schools, along with system-wide improvements in security and technology.
"We are looking to effectively transform high schools in neighborhoods across this city into campuses that are equipped to meet our students' needs for the next half-century."
HISD's Jason Spencer says they're holding ten meetings around the city, starting tonight, to give parents the chance to ask questions. Spencer says the meetings will be led by high-level staff members who'll present a video and powerpoint presentation.
"As a school district our job is to inform people what they're voting on. We are prohibited by law from advocating for the passage of the bond. We'll leave that to other organizations."
The first meetings are at six this evening. There's one at Booker T. Washington High School in northwest Houston. Another will be held at Bellaire High School. Meetings will be held around the city through October 4th.
