Houston-based Cardtronics says it has acquired all the assets of Minnesota-based ATM Network for an undisclosed sum.

ATM Network provides support services for about 6,200 merchant-owned cash machines, with clients in all fifty states and Washington, DC. Cardtronics spokesman Nick Pappathopoulos says it’s mainly those clients that will notice a change.

“We’re able to bring that processing in house. We have our own platform for that sort of thing, so that can mean that the whole process is done a little more efficiently. And also just being the overall scale of provider that Cardtronics is, with now over 61,000 ATMs as part of our overall portfolio, that gives us a little extra buying power with the vendors that we work with.”

Pappathopoulos says customers who use ATM Networks-serviced machines will see little difference. He says the merchants who own the machines are the ones who set the surcharges. That won’t change with the takeover.
