Gas Prices Continue To Fall Heading Into Holiday Weekend

Average retail gasoline prices in Houston drop almost 6¢ per gallon in the past week. It was at $3.70 for a gallon of regular unleaded. It's 7¢ less than the national average.

Gas prices in Houston have been declining steadily and Patrick DeHaan, senior petroleum analyst with GasBuddy.com, says that's good news for motorists planning for Memorial Day festivities:

"Crude oil prices down close to another dollar, to $97 and change per barrel. That means that motorists will likely continue to see gas prices falling at least for the next week or two. It's certainly looking a lot better for Memorial Day weekend that it would have about a month or two ago."

As far as gasoline prices for the holiday:

"I think by Memorial Day, prices across Houston may drop another 5 to 15 ¢ a gallon. That would put Houston's average anywhere from $3.50 to about $3.65 a gallon."

Prices in Houston are more than 17¢ lower than a month ago, and over 15¢ less than this time last year.
