The latest robbery took place at a Chase bank on West Lake Houston Parkway. Over the weekend, authorities think four different robbers held-up four other banks. The FBI's Shauna Dunlap says this has been a busy year for bank heists in Houston.
"We have had a sharp rise in bank robberies this year for whatever reason. They're up about 50-percent. We've responded to about 49 in the city and county areas at this time this year compared with only about 25 or so at the same time period last time."
Dunlap says serial bank robbers might be responsible for a good portion of this year's hold-ups. She says the public is probably the best tool to catch the crooks.
"Most of these cases are solved because of a tip from he public. For each of these cases we offer up to $5,000 for information that leads to an arrest and conviction. So if you know who these individuals are we ask that you give us a call or give CrimeStoppers a call."
She says bank robbers aren't getting away with as much money as they probably expected to these days. She says the reward money for catching them is often more than what the robbers get from banks.
