Job Prospects for New College Grads Looking Up

Companies that cut millions of workers during the recession are now looking to rebuild their "bench strength." Jamie Belinne, associate dean for career services at the University of Houston's Bauer College of Business, says the class of 2012 will be among the biggest beneficiaries.
"We've seen a huge uptick in hiring. We've seen some companies come back that we haven't seen for a few years. We're seeing, actually, some frantic recruiters trying to fill last minute positions they didn't realize they were going to have. Usually, this time of year, recruiting slows down, but it's actually picking up."
But this year's grads will still need to bring their A game if they hope to win one of the new openings. A study by global outplacement firm Challenger, Gray & Christmas finds many of the graduates from 2010 and 2011 are still looking for jobs in their chosen fields.
