KUHF Conversations: Harris Co. Judge Ed Emmett On The Future Of The Astrodome

April 11, 2012

by: David Pitman

Another study is underway to figure out what the future holds for the Astrodome. None of the possible options is quick, or cheap. It would cost at least $120 million to tear it down (with a quarter of that going to pay off the outstanding bonds). And renovating the Dome so it could, once again, be a public venue of some sort might cost upwards of $300 to $500 million. Harris County would have to get voters to say yes to selling bonds to raise that kind of money.
