Stanford Jury Watch

Jury deliberation continues today in the Ponzi scheme trial of Houston financier R. Allen Stanford.

Judge David Hittner left on business Thursday afternoon that will keep him away from the court for the rest of the week. An alternate judge is sitting in to answer questions the jury may have in Judge Hittner’s absence.

Marc Mukasey heads the white collar criminal defense section at the law firm of Bracewell & Giuliani.

“These are complex charges. Mail fraud and wire fraud have complicated elements. It’s going to probably take a couple of days, at least, to march through the charges, get consensus on every one of them, or on most of them, and then return a verdict. But the collective wisdom of the jury in most federal criminal cases is really remarkable.”

If the jury reaches a verdict today, it will be sealed and read when Judge Hittner returns to the court on Monday.
