CenterPoint Breaks Ground In East End

CenterPoint Energy will build a new facility in the East End of Houston to house its regional natural gas services.

The company broke ground on its new facility which will house training, warehousing, maintenance and services.

Alicia Dixon is CenterPoint's spokesperson and says right now CenterPoint leases three locations, but the new 122,000 square foot building will bring all their natural gas services under one roof.

CenterPoint new East End facility "We're going to have offices for our employees that work out of here, we're going to have natural gas trucks that go and check on natural gas leaks and maintain our system working out of here, working on the meters. And really this facility is not going to serve just the Houston area, it's going to serve operations as far as things like the meters and the training — those functions are going to be serving all of our distributions operations in the six states that we serve."

The building will be in a warehouse district on Navigation between Lockwood and Wayside.

Councilmember James Rodriguez represents the area and says it's important to see large companies like CenterPoint invest in the East End.

"I probably get several calls every week from developers interested in this area. So I'm real excited to see this growth and the positive growth — the positive business that are going to provide good-paying jobs to residents."

CenterPoint plans to open its new facility by the end of this year.
