Houston journalist Claudia Kolker says the presence and influence of immigrants in the United States can help everyone lead healthier and happier lives. Kolker, who is a contributing editor to the Houston Chronicle's editorial board, travelled the country to study various customs and practices ranging from post-natal care, to studying, to saving money, diet, and relationship help. She compiled what she found, backed up by scholarly research, in a book called "The Immigrant Advantage - What We Can Learn From Newcomers to America about Health, Happiness, and Hope". Kolker sat down with Morning Edition host David Pitman to talk about one of the customs that helped her.
