Houston-based Enterprise Products Partners says it has enough support from shippers to build the first energy pipeline between Pennsylvania and Texas.

The 1,230 mile pipeline will link oil and natural gas fields in the Marcellus and Utica Shale regions of Pennsylvania, West Virginia and Ohio with ethylene plants on the Texas Gulf Coast.

Enterprise spokesman Rick Rainey says the company is currently negotiating right-of-way agreements.

“Once construction starts, we’re looking at the potential of 4,000 jobs created. There will also be additional jobs created from businesses that would support construction of that pipeline, such as mechanical support, lodging, food, in addition to the petrochemical industries along the Gulf Coast, which will benefit as they expand their own facilities.”

The pipeline will have an initial capacity of 125,000 barrels per day, but that could be ramped up to 190,000 barrels. Enterprise expects to begin operating the pipeline in early 2014.
