Former Representative Nick Lampson held the 9th Congressional District for eight years before it was split up in redistricting.
Republican Ted Poe won the reconfigured district in 2004.
Lampson tells the Beaumont Enterprise that he's confident the newly drawn 14 District will remain relatively stable, containing somewhere between 80 to 85 percent of his former 9th District.
Lampson established the first-ever Congressional Missing and Exploited Children's Caucus after a 12-year-old girl from Friendswood was abducted and found murdered. The caucus was directly responsible for nationalizing the successful AMBER Alert system.
Lampson was Jefferson County property tax assessor for 19 years, before giving up that post to run for Congress.
